Husband who left suicide author gets £100k
THE husband of a bestselling chick-lit author who committed suicide will inherit an estate worth more than £100,000, despite walking out on their marriage.
Author Susan Morgan took a lethal cocktail of prescription painkillers last October. She died alone in a hotel room while holidaying on the Isle of Man.
But the 52-year-old died intestate, leaving her estate to husband Simon Morgan, 42, who will inherit £118,000.
He walked out on their eight-year marriage shortly before her death.
Last night a ‘For Sale’ sign stood outside their £350,000 Georgian home in Cheltenham’s leafy Montpellier district.
Mrs Morgan’s father, Jack Lightfoot, who still lives at the house, said: ‘Simon will get the lion’s share of the inheritance. I’ll be moving out of here into sheltered accommodation.’
Using the pen names Zoe Barnes and Sue Dyson, Mrs Morgan wrote 45 chick-lit novels, including Wedding Belles, Just Married and Special Delivery.
She had long suffered severe pain due to Sjogren’s syndrome, an immune illness with similar symptoms to rheumatoid arthritis, and Tolosa-Hunt syndrome, which causes intense pain behind the eyes.
At an inquest in February, Mr Morgan revealed his wife had begun ‘to loathe the life she had and used to cry a lot’ and admitted his moving out may have been the last straw.
However, Mr Lightfoot this week insisted: ‘I still have an amicable relationship with Simon. My daughter’s illnesses are the cause of the tragedy.’
