Eco-friendly milk in bags plan goes sour
WAITROSE has taken ‘milk in bags’ off its shelves – because it says customers do not understand how to use them.
The bags are for eco-friendly shoppers to refill their plastic milk bottles. But Waitrose has ditched the idea, claiming poor demand led to high wastage.
Yet last month, Sainsbury’s extended its milk bags nationwide after a successful trial in 50 stores.
Waitrose said yesterday: ‘This experience has taught us that the multiple retail environment may not be the best fit for the Eco Pak as the concept needs to be explained to the consumer.’
