When Cate the Great woke up with Oscar
With the movie world – and THAT frock– at her feet...
IT MIGHT be the morning after the night before, but Cate Blanchett looks radiant as she relaxes in bed, her Oscar by her side.
The stunning gown she wore as she collected the statuette last Sunday lies across her bed – and she has clearly been perusing newspaper coverage of her big night. On the floor, next to her discarded high heels, is the March 3 edition of USA Today, which carries a picture of her on its cover.
This exclusive Mail on Sunday portrait was taken at the Beverly Hills Hotel by celebrated photog- rapher Art Streiber, who had unique access to this year’s Oscars. It is a tribute to a celebrated 1977 photograph of Faye Dunaway, taken by the pool of the same hotel the day after she was named Best Actress for her role in the film Network, again surrounded by newspapers and her award. That image was shot by Terry O’Neill – who would later go on to marry and then split from Dunaway.
He said in 2010: ‘It’s the best Oscar picture taken. And modern photographers should take that as a challenge.’
Blanchett, who won her Oscar for her title role in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, has paid tribute to the stars of Hollywood’s golden years before – as she won the Best Supporting Actress award in 2005 for playing Katharine Hepburn in The Aviator.
And having her picture taken was not the only thing 44-year-old Blanchett did the day after scooping her Oscar – she also got a tattoo on Hollywood’s Sunset Strip, along with fellow nominee Amy Adams.
Streiber was the only photographer given exclusive access to all areas at this year’s Oscars and his exclusive pictures can be seen in today’s Event magazine.
