Posh, sloshed ... and back on the Gogglebox!
Forget the Oscars: it’s the Poshcars as C4’s tipsiest couple return with a pimetime show... and their pie-eyed awards for the best (and worst) TV
THEY’RE Britain’s booziest and bitchiest television critics – and they’re back.
Steph and Dom Parker, aka the Posh Couple, have become cult viewing on Channel 4’s Gogglebox, which returned for its third series on Friday.
The hilarious programme shows real viewers’ reactions to and comments on the week’s TV as they watch from their living rooms. Side by side, sloshed on their cream chintz sofa, the Posh Parkers’ hilarious booze-ridden antics, boisterous bickering, acerbic asides and pithy put-downs have made them the most popular of the reviewers.
They even dress specially for the occasion – Dom has appeared in gaudy, tartan trews, Steph in her pearls and twin set.
‘But the thing we are known for is our drinking,’ admits Steph. ‘Drinking is exactly what we do.
‘Sometimes I like a Screwdriver. Sometimes a gin and tonic. Other times it’s wine or champagne. It all depends on the time of day.’
The Parkers’ legendary boozing has led to more than one on-screen amorous moment.
Once, after a 12-hour wine and champagne binge, Steph, 47, lunged at her husband with such enthusiasm that the sofa, with them on it, toppled over.
On another occasion Dom, 49, asked Steph what she would like to drink.
She replied: ‘That depends on whether or not you want sex tonight? If the answer is yes, I want a vodka and Red Bull.
‘If it’s no, I want a nice relaxing glass of Baileys.’ Seconds later she whispered to the camera: ‘Oh God. Please let it be a Baileys!’
The Parkers’ Gogglebox appearances are filmed in the front room of their £4.5million Lutyens-built Grade I listed home in Sandwich, Kent – which is also one of Britain’s most up-market bed and breakfasts.
Undeniably snobby, Steph once pondered how many windows Downton Abbey possessed.
‘We have 63 you know,’ she informed the viewers.
The couple, who have been married for 18 years, have two teenage children who attend public school.
