Why children now rule the roost

-

IT USED to be said that children should be seen and not heard – but today’s generation are dominating their family home, according to a new poll.

About 70 per cent of parents admit their own bedrooms have been ‘taken over’ by children, and 55 per cent find toys all over the house.

A quarter of youngsters also have a playroom, 19 per cent enjoy an area in the garden to call their own, and a lucky 14 per cent even have their own lounge.

Meanwhile, the poll by Barratt Homes found that 36 per cent of young adults return to live with their parents at some point – mainly for financial reasons.

Social scientist Juliet Landau-Pope said: ‘Finding ways to make the best of space in our homes is a challenge.’
