I said we were out – and burglars moved in

-

MEDICAL graduate Hannah Ward shared too much information on social media while at university, with disastrous consequences.

At the time she had moved into a house share in Leeds with six others for their second year of study. The group announced on Facebook that ‘the whole house was out for a big night’ to celebrate.

The 24-year-old, who now lives with friends in East London, says: ‘We naively shared this with the world.

‘Off we all went to a house party, only to return later to discover that our property had been broken into, turned upside down and all our valuables had been taken.’

Laptops, MP3 players, jewellery and bags were all missing and Hannah had her computer and iPod stolen, worth a combined £700.

She made a claim for the stolen items on her parents’ home insurance policy, which covered her student accommodation, .

Hannah says: ‘I am now much more careful about the information I post on social media, especially my whereabouts when I’m out of the house. You just don’t know who is taking note.’
