THE DRUG CASE
LAWYERS believe Haslam passed defence case secrets to his handlers. In at least one case, they fear it enabled police to change evidence before a drugs prosecution reached court. Publican John Elliott, later jailed over an ecstasy haul, said his defence team, which included Haslam, exposed a vital flaw in police evidence. They found that officers, who said they were watching from a hotel room, could not have spotted him loading a car with drugs from the window. But when in court, police dropped this part of their evidence.
