It’s tough for Murray but we love clay, says Davis Cup foe

-

BELGIAN No 1 David Goffin says it was a ‘no-brainer’ to play the Davis Cup final on clay because it is Andy Murray’s weakest surface.

Britain are the bookmakers’ favourites to win at the Flanders Expo in Ghent next month, but Goffin said: ‘It’s tough for them to play on clay. They prefer grass courts, hard courts, fast courts.

‘So even if Andy played unbelievable on clay this year it’s always tough for them to change surface.

‘We love clay. I’ve been playing every summer on it since I was five, so it is an easy surface for us.’

Murray still made the French Open semi-finals this year on the surface and beat Rafael Nadal to win the Madrid Masters, and world No 16 Goffin added: ‘Murray can do everything with the ball. I have to be fit and ready because it could be really long.’
