LEAGUE TWO

-

OXFORD 1 CAMBRIDGE 0

RYAN TAYLOR (right) may have been Oxford’s hero with the only goal after 32 minutes, but manager Michael Appleton hailed Liechtenstein keeper Benjamin Buchel after an impressive league debut.

Appleton said: ‘I thought he was very commanding of his box and was there when we needed him. In the last two games he’d given us something a bit extra, so I felt he deserved his opportunity.’

Cambridge’s new manager Shaun Derry added: ‘I’m obviously disappointed, but we gave Oxford quite a few problems.’

YEOVIL 2 STEVENAGE 2

TOM PETT’S last-gasp equaliser brought a big smile to Stevenage assistant boss Darren Sarll’s face. Harry Cornick and Shaun Jeffers had put Yeovil 2-1 up, with Dean Wells scoring in between. Sarll said: ‘We stuck in there and that was very pleasing to see.’

YORK 1 PLYMOUTH 2

GRAHAM CAREY

(right) was lauded by Plymouth chief Derek Adams after he set up Jake Jervis’ opener, before killing off York with Argyle’s second goal on the stroke of half-time.

‘Graham Carey was brilliant again and he’s one of the top players in this league,’ claimed Adams, whose side conceded a 99th-minute goal through Ben Godfrey. ‘For the first 20 minutes, we were unbelievable.’

York boss Jackie McNamara has now lost all his three games and said: ‘There’s a lot to improve on.’

ACCRINGTON 2 NEWPORT 2

MATT CROOKS rescued a point for Accrington, although boss John Coleman was not entirely happy. He said: ‘I am relieved to get a point, I am disappointed we didn’t get all three at home.’ Billy Kee also scored, while Yan Klukowski and Scott Boden netted for County.

LUTON 2 BARNET 0

COMMITMENT was key to Luton’s triumph according to manager John Still as Danny Green and Cameron McGeehan (right) were on target as they ended Barnet’s five-game unbeaten run.

They, in turn, stretched their winning streak to three matches and Still said: ‘I was really pleased all round as we needed to be quite committed in these conditions and we were.’

Barnet boss Martin Allen added: ‘Over the past month the whole squad has been fantastic, but we dipped below our standards here.’

EXETER 2 CRAWLEY 2

LUKE ROONEY scored a lastminute equaliser for Crawley, which angered Exeter boss Paul Tisdale. Goals from Tom Nichols and Ashley Nicholls, either side of Sonny Bradley’s strike, had put City in the driving seat and Tisdale said: ‘We only have ourselves to blame.’

NORTHAMPTN 1 MANSFIELD 0

MARC RICHARDS

(right) struck his 11th goal of the season to please Northampton manager Chris Wilder as the club prepare to face a High Court winding-up order on Monday.

‘For the staff to turn up every day and put in the work they are to help us set up a team to go out and get a result is phenomenal,’ said Wilder. ‘I just hope this feelgood factor continues.’

Mansfield boss Adam Murray said: ‘We had chances and opportunities but didn’t take them. We need to be more ruthless.’

BRISTOL R 2 CARLISLE 0

TWO-GOAL Matt Taylor inspired Bristol Rovers to a first home league win since August in a result that was appreciated by manager Darrell Clarke. He said: ‘That one was for the fans. I knew that if everyone stuck together our home form would come right.’
