Kane: Let’s play with no fear at Euros

- By Rob Draper

HARRY KANE says England can play without fear at Euro 2016 and that the new generation may be able to shake off the inhibitions of the past.

Since 2008, England have either failed to qualify or flopped at major international tournaments, other than Euro 2012, where they lost on penalties in the quarterfinals against Italy. But Kane, who is hoping to play in his first major finals for the senior team, said: ‘I’ve played a couple of youth tournaments with England now, Euros or World Cups, it’s just about taking your club form into the national side.

‘If I am picked, it will be a great experience. It’s a time to be brave as a country. There’s been a lot of talk about England not winning anything for so long. I think we have to go there and be brave and we have a fantastic young team.

‘Anyone who comes up against England won’t have any easy games. We have to take that confidence into games. I think in the past we’ve gone into matches thinking, “Oh, we’re playing Spain or Germany, it’s going to be a tough game”.

‘But we should have gone into it saying, “We’ve got one hell of a team, we should be playing and playing well against these teams and definitely trying to win the games”. That’s what we have to do is to take away the fear and just go play the football and enjoy it.’

Glenn Hoddle says England manager Roy Hodgson should pair Kane with Wayne Rooney. ‘I would love to see Roy go with Rooney and Harry,’ said Hoddle. ‘It will give us more goal threat.’
