DARREN FERGUSON was delighted as his Doncaster side maintained their winning run. They are now seven points clear of second-placed Plymouth after a fifth successive league win. Ferguson said: ‘It never gets boring winning games. Four games on the bounce now we’ve scored three goals.’ A first Rovers goal for Mathieu Baudry set them on their way, and a double from John Marquis (above) made sure.

CARLISLE’S promotion hopes stuttered again as they let 10man Barnet fight back for a draw. Charlie Wyke put Carlisle ahead before John Akinde replied with a penalty for Barnet, who had Simeon Akinola sent off.

STEVENAGE 2 GRIMSBY 0

STEVENAGE returned to winning ways after successive league defeats thanks to goals from Steven Schumacher and Jobi McAnuff. Boss Darren Sarll said: ‘We had a chat and Steven gave me the answers I was looking for.’

CREWE 0 CHELTENHAM 0

GOALKEEPIN­G heroics from Scott Brown thwarted Crewe’s quest for a first win under new boss Dave Artell as Cheltenham held on for a goalless draw. Artell admitted: ‘We’ve not been clinical enough.’

NOTTS CO 2 CRAWLEY 1

JONATHAN FORTE’S last-gasp goal gave 10-man Notts County their first league win since October. They took the lead when Thierry Audel forced the ball home, but were reduced to 10 men when Curtis Thompson was sent off for a second bookable offence. Crawley took advantage with a late equaliser from James Collins, only for Forte (above) to snatch the points. County boss Kevin Nolan said: ‘It’s not great for the heart, I must admit. But I am young enough and fit enough to be able to take it.’

PORTSMOUTH 0 EXETER 1

DAVID WHEELER extended Exeter’s unbeaten run to 10 games as his ninth goal of the season was enough for victory at Portsmouth. Exeter manager Paul Tisdale said: ‘We were solid and built this win on teamwork.’

MANSFIELD 2 L ORIENT 0

MANSFIELD boss Steve Evans was straight on the phone in search of new signings after his side made it six league games unbeaten with goals from Ben Whiteman and Danny Rose, leaving fitness coach Lee Taylor to meet the media.

NEWPORT 3 HARTLEPOOL 1

NEWPORT earned a first league win in 10 games with goals from Ryan Bird, Aaron Williams and Dan Butler. Hartlepool, with Dave Jones in charge for the first time, got a late consolatio­n through Padraig Amond.

LUTON 2 CAMBRIDGE 0

LUTON climbed to fourth in the table after an impressive win over Cambridge United, thanks to Isaac Vassell’s opener and a late penalty from Jordan Cook (right). Delighted Luton boss Nathan Jones said: ‘It was a good, solid performanc­e. It wasn’t as fluid as we normally are, but we deserved our win and could have rounded it off nicely too. I’m very, very pleased as these are a good side, they’re in some wonderful form, and they’ve beaten teams.’
