Top award for MoS Chief Sports Writer

THE Mail on Sunday’s Chief Sports Writer, Oliver Holt, has won the Sports Commentato­r of the Year award at the Editorial Intelligen­ce Comment Awards.

The awards celebrate the writing of the UK’s most hard-hitting, thought-provoking and influentia­l print and online commentato­rs.

Holt, who is in Australia covering the Ashes, was announced as winner at a ceremony on Thursday.

Writing with authority on the whole spectrum of sport, Holt has become essential Sunday reading for sports fans of all ages. As well as his insight on major sporting events such as Wimbledon, the Lions’ tour of New Zealand, the Open, the Anthony Joshua-Wladimir Klitschko fight and Premier League football, Holt has written revealing interviews with many stars of sport.

Lions coach Warren Gatland, former England manager Roy Hodgson, champion trainer Sir Michael Stoute, jockey AP McCoy, Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone, New Zealand rugby legend Dan Carter and Manchester City defender John Stones are just a few of his subjects in the past year.
