Pochettino: Harry on top of the world

- By Rob Draper

MAURICIO POCHETTINO hailed Harry Kane as one of the world’s greatest strikers after his winning goal in the north London derby.

And even Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger agreed with his Spurs counterpart, acknowledging that Kane is among the world’s goalscoring elite.

Kane has now scored seven goals in seven Premier League games against Arsenal, the side that rejected him as a schoolboy, and Pochettino said: ‘In the last three years I am repeating that he is one of the best strikers in the world.

‘Sometimes you believe that it’s because he’s my player and I try to praise him. But I’m telling you and I tell you again, from my experience in football, he’s one of the best. And he deserves that. He is the present and the future. It is amazing what he is achieving. We are so proud that he is in our side.’

Wenger agreed with Pochettino while defending his centrehalves, who had been criticised by former Arsenal man Martin Keown for not having the hunger to defend.

‘I don’t think they lack hunger to defend,’ said Wenger. ‘The were caught by a super striker, one of the best in the world. He [Kane] scores against everybody so all the defenders who play against him lack hunger then. The first goal was key and we conceded it. Kane made the difference, that’s what he’s about. I have seen the replay, it is no foul, just good forward play. We can only look at ourselves.’

Tottenham have taken seven points from a possible nine against Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal and now face Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Kane said: ‘It’s nice to score and we deserved it. It’s a derby and you look forward to these games. It was a great display by the team.

‘Now we have a massive game in the Champions League. You want to test yourself against the best.’
