TV darlings United will rake in more than champions City

- By Kieran Gill

JOSE MOURINHO has been left in Pep Guardiola’s wake this season but when it comes to making money Manchester United are still on top.

The Old Trafford club are in line to earn the most money in the Premier League because they have been more popular with broadcasters than champions Manchester City.

Matches involving United have been shown live 28 times by BT Sport and Sky Sports — as many as Arsenal and Liverpool — compared to 26 games involving Guardiola’s City.

This has earned United an extra £2.4m in TV money, enough to take their earnings above their neighbours. The MoS has estimated how much each club in the top flight is set to take home and secondplaced United can expect around £153.6million — about £400,000 more than runaway champions City will be paid.

Burnley, despite being set to finish seventh and having secured European football for next season, have only been shown on TV on seven occasions — the fewest in the Premier League.

Relegated Stoke City and West Brom will take almost £100m down with them to the Championship.

Our predicted money table below is based on the current Premier League standings and is subject to change depending on today’s final results of the season.

League bosses are expected to publish the official figures next week.

With the Premier League in the same TV deal as last season, each position in the table is set to be worth around £1.9m.

It means West Ham, for example, who can still finish the season five places higher than their current 15th position, still have around £10m to play for.

Clubs are guaranteed a minimum of £12.5m for TV games with an extra £1.2m per live match above 10.
