JO WHILEY, 52, has been a radio DJ and TV presenter for more than two decades. She is married to music executive Steve Morton, with whom she has four children.

I was the child no one ever noticed.

It’s ironic that I ended up in jobs where you have to be outgoing.

Marriage teaches you patience but you have to work at it.

Steve and I have been together for 27 years. It’s not always blissful but don’t give up. It’s worth it.

Bono gives the best advice.

He told me off for having Diet Coke with my whisky and said it should always be ginger ale.

The bigger your kids get, the bigger your problems.

The toddler years are easy – but you can’t stick a plaster on a child when they are hurting emotionally and when they have a problem that you desperately want to solve but can’t.

Live the life you love and love the life you live.

We have lost a few friends recently. It impresses on you that the time we have on Earth is very short. Try to savour every day.

Social media is unhealthy.

There is a real epidemic of vitriol coming through it at the moment. I try to avoid reading anything about me because it’s a really destructive and awful thing.

I am late for everything.

It is genetic – my parents are the same.

Crying is a great release.

When I am stressed, my default position is to cry. Anything can set me off.

Family keeps you grounded.

I live a very normal life. My friends are other mums in the village. I can’t tell you how important they are to me.

Pain comes with age.

I have got problems with my shoulders. I’m sure it’s a result of carrying children. Jo will be DJing at the Investec Derby at Epsom on June 2. Her Radio 2 show with Simon Mayo starts at 5pm on weekdays.
