Langer shows he can still cut it at age of 60

IT is a measure of Bernhard Langer’s unflinchin­g dedication to the sport he has graced for close to half a century that the German was able to post a third-round 68 yesterday at the age of 60.

Langer upstaged players half his age by hitting 87 per cent of the fairways, reaching 78 per cent of the greens in regulation and taking just 30 putts to compile his three-under-par round.

That round included an eagle and three birdies, as the two-time Masters champion hallmarked his 31st Open appearance in style.

He confessed to regretting never having raised the Claret Jug after twice finishing second and third three times.
