- By Charlotte Wace

A SHOCKING television appearance by Paul Gascoigne yesterday, in which he slurred his words, has raised new fears over his health.

Just 45 minutes into Sky’s Soccer AM show, host John Fendley told viewers that Gascoigne had left because he ‘wasn’t feeling wonderful’.

The former England and Tottenham Hotspur star, who has battled alcoholism and drug addiction, is pictured below during the programme.

Gascoigne, 51, later said he had simply been suffering the effects of sleeping pills.

He tweeted: ‘Ha just read some of the tweets some say I’m looking well others say it’s the best they’ve seen me and others are saying i was drunk it’s every time I’m doing well that’s ok I been taking sleeping tablets to try kip that all love GAZZA xxxx.’

Earlier in the week it was reported that Gascoigne and girlfriend Sara Lovett, 49, an art gallery owner, had ended their relationship after a few months.
