Roundup is safe, insist its makers
THE maker of Roundup weedkiller – approved for use in the EU – has insisted it is safe after a US jury backed a groundsman’s claim the pesticide contributed to his terminal cancer.
Dewayne Johnson was awarded £226 million ($289 million) by a state jury who found Monsanto had failed to adequately warn of the risks of using the herbicide.
But Monsanto vice-president Scott Partridge said: ‘Roundup has been safe for four decades and will continue to be safe.
‘There is no credible scientific evidence that demonstrates otherwise.’
