Army’s lethal error

SOLDIERS, of all people, should not be taking illegal drugs.

Men with regular access not only to deadly weapons but to intricate and secret equipment simply cannot be given any leeway in this matter. The danger to other soldiers and to the public is far too great.

No doubt recruitment in these times, when drug laws are laxly enforced among civilians, is difficult. But there are many other ways in which soldiers must live differently from the rest of us.

To give in on this matter, for short-term gain, is to store up terrible risks in the future.
