Alexander-Arnold is given timely support by Klopp

TWO of the finest young talents in English football look set to share a touchline at Anfield today as Liverpool host Fulham.

For Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ryan Sessegnon it has been a season with plenty of bumps in the road. Sessegnon, the 18-yearold Fulham left-back, sank to his knees with his shirt over his head after Monday night’s defeat at Huddersfield consigned his side to the bottom of the league.

And Liverpool right-back Alexander-Arnold was hauled off at half-time 24 hours later in the Champions League defeat by Red Star Belgrade, following a display against Arsenal a few days earlier which many felt was his most disappointing since breaking into the first team.

Luckily for Alexander-Arnold, his manager Jurgen Klopp understands the perils of life as a young player. ‘We speak constantly but not about things that were good or not good, it’s more general; advice, information, whatever,’ said Klopp. ‘Trent is a very young boy still. He had two weeks off in the summer — that’s not a lot. It’s clear we had to have an eye on him fitness wise.

‘He’s actually in a good moment. He has played a lot of football and will play a lot. That’s good for him. Most important is that he can stay injury-free. Don’t point the finger too much, accept it. It will not be the first or last time when something will not be 100 per cent in his life but he is still an outstanding player.’
