Users sound off about the new BBC app

THE new BBC Sounds on­line ser­vice al­low­ing users to lis­ten to the ra­dio and down­load shows has been slammed de­spite a £10 mil­lion mar­ket­ing cam­paign.

Lis­ten­ers have flooded so­cial me­dia with com­plaints about the on­line ser­vice and app for tablets and mo­bile phones – with many say­ing it is worse than the iPlayer Ra­dio that it will re­place early next year.

One lis­tener wrote: ‘I’ve just deleted the BBC Sounds app. Didn’t work. Wouldn’t play any down­loads. Dif­fi­cult to nav­i­gate and gave less info.’

BBC Sounds, avail­able via an app since June and on­line since Oc­to­ber, brings 18 na­tional and 40 lo­cal ra­dio sta­tions to­gether.

The BBC has re­port­edly spent £3 mil­lion on a glitzy pub­lic­ity cam­paign, in­clud­ing an ad­vert with Kylie Minogue. It plans to spend an­other £7 mil­lion next year.

A BBC spokesman said: ‘BBC Sounds is al­ready su­pe­rior to the iPlayer Ra­dio app.’
