Be afraid of the classroom zealots

-

According to the head teacher at Heavers Farm School, a T-shirt worn by a staff member bearing the words ‘Why be racist, sexist, homophobic or transphobic when you could just be quiet?’ did not breach the school’s code of conduct.

But since when has it been allowed for teachers to make political statements by any method? This was a political statement. I bet wearing a T-shirt expressing Right-wing opinions or expressing support for a Christian viewpoint would be deemed in breach of the rules.

It is time that we woke up to the fact that the education system is run by Left-wing supporters. Michael Gove once referred to the educational establishment as the ‘Left-wing Blob’, and he was correct. Any non-Leftist teacher knows that it is best to stay quiet in the staffroom when politics are being discussed.

There is, of course, no shortterm solution to this situation but the longer it continues, the lower the standards of education will become, as educational rigour gives way to soft Left-wing attitudes. Richard Broughton (retired teacher), Sutton Coldfield
