Wilson snatches late try to lift Falcons off bottom

-

MARK WILSON went from helping England smash Australia to grabbing a dramatic try deep in added time that dragged the Falcons off the bottom of the table.

Newcastle camped on the Saints line for 10 minutes and, after the hosts had Wales fly-half Dan Biggar sent to the bin, Wilson dived beneath a pile of bodies to level the contest.

Toby Flood’s conversion saw Newcastle leap above Sale Sharks and director of rugby Dean Richards said: ‘Mark made a big impact on his return from England. The referee could easily have given a penalty try but I’d prefer us to get the try and we did.’

Saints boss Chris Boyd said: ‘We should have had the win sewn up at the break but wasted chances.’
