... so here are some tips from ‘Mr Loophole’
NICK Freeman, better known as ‘Mr Loophole’, has successfully defended high-profile names from footballer David Beckham to cricketer Andrew Flintoff for traffic offences – in the process becoming something of a celebrity lawyer. In an interview with The Mail on Sunday, he describes himself as ‘a relentless over-thinker during both sleeping and waking moments, a passionate petrol-head and persistent’.
He advises those questioning the legitimacy of traffic penalties to employ similar laser-sharp focus when they appeal.
Freeman says: ‘If you feel a fine is unfair, express your view to the parking enforcement officer or write immediately to the company that regulates the parking area. Always retain any supporting evidence such as photographs.’ He says people should make the effort to represent themselves in person where possible at the various appeal stages.
When asked what was his inspiration for becoming ‘Mr Loophole’, he says it was losing a drink-drive case as a young prosecutor for Greater Manchester Police in 1982 – over a technical point.
He adds: ‘I was horrified by my ignorance of the law. Knowledge is king and it’s the mantra I live by.’
