Diamond’s scuffle sours fine Sale win
SALE boss Steve Diamond took the gloss off a landmark win for his team by squaring up to a reporter after their match at Gloucester.
Chris Ashton, Faf de Klerk and a superstar back line led Sale to their first win on the road since March.
But it did not stop a hot-headed Diamond getting involved in a scuffle and slanging match with a journalist he felt had been critical earlier this season.
The blazing row detracted from the try-scoring exploits of Ashton, de Klerk, Rob Webber and Denny Solomona that took his unfashionable team into the top half of the table. They look like play-off contenders.
‘We’ve got a back line which on paper is electric and if they keep on playing like they did today they’ll be difficult to beat,’ said Diamond.
