5 kids who can make a difference in 2019

-

JADON SANCHO, 18 (Borussia Dortmund)

Part of the England Under 17 World Cup-winning squad but not a secret any more after winning three England caps. Since making his debut in October, Sancho (right) has gone from strength to strength, nailing down a starting place for Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund and scoring six goals.

MORGAN GIBBS-WHITE, 18 (Wolves)

Gary Lineker and Danny Murphy are among the chorus line of admirers of the 18-year-old midfielder who has that rare ability to beat a man effortlessly and slide a pass in. Another of the England Under 17 World Cup but, unlike some, he’s making progress by forcing his way into a Premier

League first team.

PHIL FODEN, 18 (Manchester City)

The jewel of the Under 17 World Cup-winning team, yet now seeing team-mates overtake him. Just getting on the bench is an achievement in this City team. But if he gets more games, Foden (left) could yet be the midfielder England lack, the one whose passing alone can set the tempo of the game.

BEN CHILWELL, 22 (Leicester City)

A year ago he could barely get in the Leicester team but against Spain in Seville, Chilwell (right) looked mature enough to be England’s left back for years to come. Another beneficiary of rejecting the big six — he had a chance to move to Arsenal — and actually play. Watch as the elite clubs come back in for him soon.

JAMES MADDISON, 22 (Leicester City)

Not shy of putting himself centre stage, he’s been hard to keep down since his move to the Premier League in the summer. Creativity on the pitch has put him in the England squad already. His apology for receiving a red card for diving was a less comfortable day in the spotlight. Now the challenge is to step up a level and make a debut in the Euro qualifiers this March.
