‘Yellow vest’ protester who called MP a Nazi is arrested

THE leader of a far-Right mob who branded an anti-Brexit MP a ‘Nazi’ and a ‘traitor’ outside Parliament was yesterday arrested at a ‘yellow vest’ protest.

James Goddard was detained on suspicion of a public order offence and handcuffed by officers before being led away.

Scotland Yard last night declined to say if the arrest was linked to an incident on Monday when a group of men surrounded and berated Tory MP Anna Soubry as she walked to the Palace of Westminster after a TV interview. Around 150 people wearing yellow hi- viz jackets, like those worn by supporters of the French protest movement, yesterday marched through central London to demand that Brexit is enacted.

When they reached Downing Street, an EU flag was burned by Max Hammet Millay, 21, who was also part of the group caught on camera abusing Ms Soubry on Monday.

In Trafalgar Square, where police had erected barriers, scuffles broke out between a group of pro-Brexit protesters and demonstrators who were campaigning for an end to austerity.

Daniel Thomas, an associate of Tommy Robinson, the controversial far-Right activist now serving as a political adviser to Ukip, was seen with bloodied knuckles.

Left-wing journalist Owen Jones was also bundled away by police after being accosted by protesters.

Asked about Mr Goddard’s arrest, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said: ‘We can confirm that a man in his 30s was arrested outside St James’s Park Tube station BAILED: James Goddard went to the pub after being released on suspicion of a public order offence.’

Mr Goddard was last night released on bail – and seen celebrating in a London pub.
