Now Huddersfield could lose their boss and owner

- By Sami Mokbel

HUDDERSFIELD manager Jan Siewert refused to commit his future to the club last night as they suffered Premier League relegation following defeat at Crystal Palace.

The Terriers became only the second club to go down this early in a season, matching Derby’s dismal record in 2007-08.

Returning to the Championship will do little for owner Dean Hoyle’s hopes of selling the club — and they still

owe him £50million. Siewert only took over in January, replacing David Wagner, who oversaw the club’s promotion into the Premier League two years ago and successfully navigated Huddersfield to survival last season.

When asked whether his intention was stay on, Siewert answered: ‘For me it’s important to go through all the details — to make the club stronger is not just about going down directly or going up.

‘You never know these things in football. You can’t promise it. But the thing is I’m willing to work hard so that we come back to the Premier League.

‘Because I know the club that joined the Premier League for two years really enjoyed it, and our supporters really enjoyed it.

‘And for me, of course, as a manager if you are ambitious, of course (I would stay).’

When asked how pivotal the endof-season talks would be towards deciding his future, Siewert added: ‘Important, they are really important.

‘Everyone knows that failure and success belong together. You cannot always be successful.

‘We have been successful as a club for a long long time. Now it’s important for us to go through all the details of everything that happened this season. We have to learn from the failure.

‘This makes the club stronger and it’s great to be part of it. It’s something the club has to speak about internally.

‘These are things you really have to look at and speak about.’
