The real-life inspiration for Villanelle
CONVICTED Arizona killer Angela Simpson, right, is the inspiration for the ruthlessly sexy assassin. Simpson, 36, is serving life for murdering disabled Terry Neely in 2009. She lured him to her flat promising sex and spent three days beating, stabbing and torturing him.
Killing Eve writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge found video of a smirking Simpson being interviewed in jail. ‘When she was boasting about the murder and laughing she sounded like a psycho,’ she said. ‘But as soon as the cameras turned off, Simpson put on a sickly sweet voice and begged the crew to make her look good. She sounded so girlie. I wanted to capture that in Villanelle,’ Waller-Bridge said.
