The world will sit up and worry after this 10 out of 10 display

- WORLD CUP WINNING COACH

THIS was a real statement win from England and Twickenham was buzzing as the crowd realised they have a team who can cause real damage at the World Cup.

There were eight tries and a power game that must have caught the imagination of the spectators — it certainly caught mine.

This was a 10 out of 10 performance and although Manu Tuilagi got the official man of the match award, Owen Farrell was the ringmaster. Repeat this sort of form in Japan and England are going to take a lot of beating.

Farrell, playing at 12, was the brains behind how England used Tuilagi and he is this team’s Will Greenwood. He makes everything look simple, always seems to pick the right options and was brilliant.

Tuilagi must have arrived at Twickenham excited about playing

outside George Ford and Farrell and he put in his best performance for a long time. England used him as a decoy runner, a battering ram and used him in space and he was fantastic. He is an X-factor player and he fed off Farrell’s all-round excellence.

The world will take notice and coaches all over will know they have to find a way of stopping England’s power game.

Yes, Ireland’s scrum and lineout were poor but England were spot on in those departments. George Kruis and Maro Itoje were outstanding in the second row as the Irish were outmuscled from 1-15 by England’s physicality.

I assume that when England play Italy in Newcastle a week on Friday the players who were not seen yesterday will be given a run out. And those players will know they really have to turn it on to get into this starting XV because the bar has been set very high.

Eddie can put people like Tuilagi, Itoje, Farrell and Billy Vunipola in cotton wool because he will probably use his whole squad in the games against Tonga and USA, which are only four days apart.

Eddie knows they will field their gun teams against England and he knows how dangerous these sort of teams can be in World Cups.

If England had been playing Argentina or France yesterday this would have been very close to the team Eddie would have picked and his selection was another 10 out of 10.
