Eco-fanatics should direct anger at China

-

Instead of Extinction Rebellion disrupting roads and stopping people reaching important hospital appointments, as you reported on last week, why don’t they turn their attention to China, India, the US and Germany – countries which emit far more carbon dioxide than Britain. Our emissions are tiny by comparison.

These countries are also high users of polluting coal for their manufacturing industries.

If further restrictions cause Britain to lose even more of our manufacturing base, we could go bankrupt, as we won’t be able to compete with other countries. We won’t be able to help anybody then. Name and address supplied This revolution is being pursued by ill-informed people with, arguably, time on their hands, and who have not thought through the consequences and methodology of implementing what appears to be backward changes to human existence. They don’t really understand the impact of their proposed alternative ways of providing energy, travel, doing business or even eating and living.

Their hypocrisy is evident and their actions are inconsistent with their claims – such as driving diesel vans to demonstrations – and not flying unless it is to attend a conference… on objecting to flying! The arrogance of these people is astounding.

The Earth has existed for millions of years, and there was climate change long before man and Range Rovers existed. It will continue to do so, caused by solar and galactic influences far greater than man has or ever will cause. Michael Cole, Wolstanton, Staffordshire

There’s nothing so dispiriting than people complaining about others trying to change the world for the benefit of everyone. They will be the first to moan when their town floods. As for Douglas Murray, who wrote an article last week criticising the police for letting Extinction Rebellion’s protests go ahead, what does he want? For all protest to be quashed? If you fancy that, Douglas, go and live in North Korea. D. Cleary, London

How many of the current demonstrators requiring Government action on climate change are themselves paying into or receiving pensions invested by their pension funds into companies that are not compliant with their own ethos? Perhaps they should start there to object and withdraw their support rather than protest in the way they are doing at the moment. Ian Walton, Bridgwater, Somerset

Could Extinction Rebellion explain how they propose to stop natural climate change as we continue to move out of the latest Ice Age? Name and address supplied

It’s very annoying that they are causing serious civil disruption while posting posed photographs of themselves trying to look like models. They are models, in my mind – models of stupidity. Mick Ferrie, Mawnan Smith, Cornwall
