PORT VALE boss John Askey insisted his side’s away derby win was no surprise. He said: ‘We have been playing well away from home and we were unfortunat­e not to get three points before we beat Bradford. Sometimes it takes a bit of time, but if you are going to choose a game to win away from home then this is the one.’ Nottingham Forest loanee Jake Taylor (above) got the only goal to end Crewe’s sevengame unbeaten run. Crewe boss Dave Artell admitted: ‘You have to give Port Vale credit.’

BRADFORD 2 EXETER 0

THREE players were sent off as Bradford replaced Exeter in second place. Exeter lost Jake Taylor and Tom Parkes to straight reds while Bradford’s Callum Cooke also walked.

SCUNTHORPE 0 STEVENAGE 0

CARETAKER boss Mark Sampson praised Stevenage’s ‘outstandin­g’ defence as they claimed a point at fellow strugglers Scunthorpe. He said: ‘I’m not sure there was a moment around our box I thought was going to lead to a goal.’

ALL the goals came in the last 11 minutes as Bez Lubala’s effort for Crawley was cancelled out by Sam Smith and Paul Lewis won it when a clearance hit him and went in.

LEAGUE Two top scorer Eoin Doyle claimed his 14th goal of the season for Swindon. He gave them an early lead and Diallang Jaiyesimi doubled the advantage before Rory Gaffney pulled one back for Walsall.

CARLISLE 2 MACCLESFIE­LD 1

SUBSTITUTE Ryan Loft snatched a late winner for Carlisle. Theo Archibald gave Macclesfie­ld the lead but Joe Ironside missed a penalty before Harry McKirdy levelled.

OLDHAM 2 NORTHAMPTO­N 2

JONNY SMITH struck a minute from time to claim a point for Oldham. Northampto­n had been 2-0 up through Matty Warburton and Andy Williams, but substitute Scott Wilson and Smith scored in the final five minutes.

CHELTENHAM 1 FOREST GR 2

FOREST Green went top with a derby win at Cheltenham. The damage was done in the first half through Jack Aitchison and Elliott Frear before Luke Varney pulled one back after the break.

NEWPORT 1 SALFORD 2

MARK HOWARD saved an 80th minute Tristan Abrahams penalty to ensure Salford’s win. Cameron Burgess and Lois Maynard scored for the league newcomers, with a Nathan Pond own-goal giving Newport an equaliser in between.

MANSFIELD 2 COLCHESTER 3

BRANDON COMLEY, Courtney Senior and Luke Gambin got the goals for in-form Colchester, who could afford to see Mansfield keeper Conrad Logan save Frank Nouble’s penalty.

MORECAMBE 1 ORIENT 0

SUBSTITUTE A-Jay Leitch-Smith curled home the only goal as Morecambe started life after departed long-serving boss Jim Bentley and gave caretaker managers Barry Roche and Kevin Ellison a winning start.
