And here’s our guide to the Shrewsbury players hoping to stun the champions-elect

-

MAX O’LEARY (GOALKEEPER)

On loan from Bristol City so had to sit out our third-round tie against them. He even came to the match in a neutral tracksuit to avoid being accused of favouritism. Goalkeepers stick together so we’re room-mates for away games. I get the bigger bed and he has to make the tea.

DONALD LOVE (WING-BACK)

Played for Manchester United with David de Gea and Wayne Rooney but he’s such a down-toearth lad there’s no namedropping. Quiet off the pitch, he loves a tackle and a moan once he steps over the white line.

SCOTT GOLBOURNE (WING-BACK)

Likes to stand out from the crowd. Most of the lads live in tracksuits 24/7 but Scott has his own style. Turns up in some funky stuff, rolled-up jeans so you can see his yellow socks.

RO-SHAUN WILLIAMS (DEFENDER)

Signed from Manchester United a year ago and the best trainer at our club. Being a centre half, he’s not one for tricks and flicks but nice to see a 21-year-old making every session count.

ETHAN EBANKSLANDELL (DEFENDER)

Fits well into a back three having learned it at Sheffield United and Wolves. Experienced and vocal like myself. We’ll have to work out who to shout at now that young Ryan Giles has gone back to Wolves after a loan.

AARON PIERRE (DEFENDER)

Scored a cracking winner against Bristol City to get us here. I don’t know what he was doing that far forward. He’s a big old-school centre half, strong in the tackle and good in the air.

OMAR BECKLES (DEFENDER)

We call him Omar rather than Becks — I think that nickname has already been taken — but he’s an interesting guy. Plays international football for Grenada and I’ve been told his dad was in a successful 80s jazzfunk band called Central Line.

DAVID EDWARDS (MIDFIELD)

Club captain so arranges all the community visits and has had the pressure of sorting out tickets for the Liverpool game. Not easy as all the lads have had requests coming out of their ears. In the Wales squad at Euro 2016 and if I wanted a teammate in a pub quiz, it’d be him.

SHAUN WHALLEY (MIDFIELD)

Helped me settle when I signed in the summer. A football fanatic who knows what’s going on from Premier League to Conference and below. Possibly the quickest player we’ve got over 50 yards.

JOSH LAURENT (MIDFIELD)

Londoner who played in the same Sunday League team as Kortney Hause (Aston Villa) and Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Arsenal). You can see the pedigree, which is why he’s been linked with Reading. One of the young lads who enjoys the Twitter banter and loves a tracksuit.

JOSH VELA (MIDFIELD)

Signed for us last week, the gaffer used to play with him at Bolton. Has looked fit in training, it’ll be interesting if it’s felt he is ready for the game.

JASON CUMMINGS (FORWARD)

On loan from Hibs and while we’ve got a generally quiet group, it’s fair to say Jason is the exception. Likes the banter and putting a smile on everyone’s face. Good finisher and helped Hibs win the Scottish Cup after a 114-year wait.

SEAN GOSS (FORWARD)

Another one who started out at Manchester United. A leftfooter, nice player just looking for a run in the team. Been a bit in and out. Has experience of playing in Scotland for Rangers.

DANIEL UDOH (FORWARD)

Come in from Telford, has done really well. A good kid, wants to learn. Strong, quick, causes problems, came on late at Accrington and scored the winner in the last minute.

CALLUM LANG (FORWARD)

He’s an Everton supporter so even greater incentive for him to score against Liverpool. He’s got previous — he once hit the winner for Oldham against Fulham when they were in the Premier League.

SAM RICKETTS (MANAGER)

He’s actually a couple of months younger than me and I think he has a big future, possibly Premier League. Very thorough and professional and would still be playing himself without injuries. I was in Turkey when he called to sign me. We chatted for 45 minutes and my mind was made up. He’s calm in the dressing-room and has respect for playing at the highest level.

BRIAN JENSEN (GOALKEEPING-COACH)

I was team-mates with The Beast at West Brom and he ended up as my goalkeeping coach at Bury last season. I’ve got a lot to thank him for.

AND MYSELF... JOE MURPHY (GOALKEEPER)

Grew up a Liverpool fan in Dublin and made my Premier League debut for West Brom at Anfield in 2002. I started thirdchoice, got on to the bench when Brian Jensen fell ill and then Russell Hoult was sent off. My first touch was stopping a Michael Owen penalty but Liverpool still won 2-0.
