Jose is unhappy with Inter Milan as Eriksen saga still not resolved

- By Oliver Holt

JOSE MOURINHO criticised the conduct of Inter Milan last night after Christian Eriksen, who is on the verge of a move to the San Siro, was left out of the Tottenham squad that drew with Southampton in their FA Cup fourth-round tie.

Mourinho appeared to be unhappy that the transfer saga had dragged on for so long and that Spurs were about to lose a player of Eriksen’s quality, although the performance of Giovani Lo Celso at St Mary’s Stadium provided some consolation for the Dane’s absence.

‘You can read what you want to read into him not being here,’ Mourinho said of Eriksen. ‘I don’t want to say anything. I do not want to say anything. I just want to say that, that … this situation should not happen on 25th January — and it is not Tottenham’s fault that on the 25th January we are in this situation.

‘The only thing I can say is that Eriksen, since I arrived, is behaving in a very, very professional way with me and with the team.

‘Tottenham is the last one to blame for this situation but to be on 25th January in a situation like this one, it’s not nice.’

Mourinho also made it plain that Danny Rose had been left out of the Spurs 23 because he had not selected him, not because he was injured. Rose and Mourinho were reported to have clashed at training recently — something Mourinho denied — though the manager did not seek to defuse the situation.

‘Not injured, my decision,’ the Spurs boss said of the England left-back’s absence. ‘My decision is based on performance and it is based on my analysis. We have Ben Davies, left-back injured for a long time, we have Danny, we have Japhet Tanganga, who is not a left-back but is very solid and concentrated.

‘It is difficult for him [Tanganga] to make a mistake even playing in a position that is not his position and Ryan Sessegnon is a 19-year-old kid that is learning how to defend and of course his natural appetite is to be offensive. So we have four options and this is my decision.’
