I threw away my film poster fortune

-

Your article about the value of classic film posters, and your subsequent letter on the subject last week, took me back to when I left school aged 15 and started work in a cinema as a film projectionist.

At the end of each week, I would take home one of the posters, which measured about 3ft by 3ft, advertising that week’s films, which back then included The King And I, High Society, The Dam Busters, Rock Around The Clock, Journey To The Center Of The Earth and The Blob.

Then there were all the top horror films of the time, and plenty of others besides.

I would hang some of the posters on the walls around my bedroom and have a pile of others rolled up in the corner.

But after a few years I got fed up with them and threw them all away.

If only I could have looked forward 60 years, I could have made a fortune.

Oh, well, hindsight is a marvellous thing. David Hambling,
