TV FILMS OF THE WEEK

- Matthew Bond

JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM Sunday, ITV, 7.30pm

Not quite as good as the 2015 original, al, but Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are back, the volcano on Isla Nublar is about to erupt and suddenly a parkload of manchomping dinosaurs (right) needs to be evacuated. What could go wrong?

RAIN MAN Sunday, 5*, 11.50pm

The portrayal of characters with mental challenges is a more sensitive subject these days but Dustin Hoffman’s Oscar-winning performance as an autistic savant who holds the key to a $3 million inheritance remains hugely impressive. A young Tom Cruise, as his dollar-hustling brother, isn’t bad either.

GANDHI Monday, Sony Movies Classic, 3.20pm

One of the best film biographies ever made. Behind the camera, the muchmissed Richard Attenborough ensures the story of Mahatma Gandhi has a proper epic sweep while, in front of it, Ben Kingsley gives the extraordinary central performance that launched his Hollywood career.

LOGAN Tuesday, Film 4, 9pm

The third Wolverine spin-off from the X-Men franchise is set in a near future that sees an ageing Logan (Hugh Jackman) succumbing to alcoholism with his powers of selfrenewal in decline. Mind you, poor Prof X (Patrick Stewart) is in an even worse state. Until a young girl with rather familiar powers enters their lives.

THE SQUARE Wednesday, Film 4, 9pm

Easy to dismiss this Palme d’Or winner as standard Swedish arthouse fare. But it has real watchability thanks to a cast led by Elisabeth Moss and Danish actor Claes Bang.

ALL THE KING’S MEN Thursday, Sony Movies Classic, 10.45am

A politician sheds all his principles on the way to becoming state governor: enriching friends, seducing women and becoming as corrupt as those he once criticised. Can’t think why they’re screening it now.

AMY Thursday, Channel 4, 10pm

It’s almost nine years since the death of singer Amy Winehouse (left), at only 27. Asif Kapadia’s powerful documentary reveals her precocious early talent and bravely identifies the men in her life who could have done so much more to help her.

BRIDESMAIDS Friday, ITV2, 9pm

First there was The Hangover. Then along came Kristen Wiig, Rose Byrne and Maya Rudolph to show that women could behave every bit as badly.
