Alex Brooker: Disability And Me
BBC2, 9pm
He first appeared on TV for what was intended to be a strictly limited run of only two weeks for The Last Leg on Channel 4, as an accompaniment to the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.
But the series has since become a mainstay of the schedules, and in the process has made presenter Alex Brooker (right) one of the best-known people with a disability in the country. Now in this very personal documentary he explores what it means to be disabled in Britain in 2020 and how it affects day-to-day life.
He also looks back to his own traumatic experience in childhood of major surgery, and for the first time in 15 years consults a doctor to consider what might lie ahead for his health in the future. This is a frank, honest and eye-opening hour, providing a telling perspective that is all too often hidden from view.
