Lewis primed for best finish

-

TOM LEWIS is set for his best result as a PGA Tour player after storming up the leaderboard on day three of the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit, Michigan.

Tour rookie Lewis, 29, briefly hit the top of the leaderboard when he posted his ninth birdie of the round to move to 12 under. However, a dropped shot at the last saw him sign for a six-under par round of 66.

The Englishman from Welwyn Garden City, ranked 68 in the world, had made only one cut in six previous events during his first full season on the PGA Tour. He finished tied for 47 at the Honda Classic in March.

Former world No.1 Luke Donald, who like Lewis made the cut on the mark, also made ground up the leaderboard with a three-under par score of 69 to reach eight under.
