Our NHS can’t be just for Covid

-

Last week, Stuart Rose wrote that ‘the NHS is there to protect us’ and that it’s time to drop the slogan ‘Protect the NHS’. He is so right. The NHS is for everyone, not just the few.

But for the past six months we have had a Negligent Health Service, available only to those suffering from Covid-19.

Like many thousands of others, my husband had his chemotherapy stopped after having four sessions, and for six months the cancer was allowed to run riot – there was no holding treatment. During this time we have seen four friends die from non-Covid issues, all of whom had their treatment stopped. This was done so that the hospital could concentrate on the pandemic.

I read that there are a number of people challenging the Government in court after having treatment cancelled. I hope these cases bring some sense to our dictatorial policymakers, and I hope they start listening to Stuart Rose, Professor Karol Sikora, Professor John Lee and others who speak for the people who have missed out on the care they need.
