THIS WEEK IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

-

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20 CHELSEA v SEVILLA

A tough start for Frank Lampard against the Europa League holders Sevilla. Chelsea reached the knockout stages last season before being taught a lesson by Bayern Munich while Sevilla beat Manchester United en route to lifting their European trophy.

PSG v MANCHESTER UNITED

United’s win on away goals in Paris in 2019 was one of their great European results and got Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the manager’s job. PSG were one game away from their Champions League dream last season — but lost to Bayern — and still have star forwards in Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Angel Di Maria.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21 MANCHESTER CITY v PORTO

Everyone will want to see how City react from their unexpected and devastating defeat to Lyon in August’s Champions League quarter-final. Three City players — Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo — were on international duty for Portugal alongside Porto veteran Pepe.

AJAX v LIVERPOOL

Liverpool have reached three European finals in four years with last season the exception — when they won the Premier League instead. Ajax’s team that reached the semi-final in 2019 has been decimated and their hopes are pinned on exciting 20-year-old Brazilian winger Antony.
