Ozil talent ‘not enough’

-

LEEDS captain Liam Cooper has pledged a donation of £25,000 on behalf of the club’s squad in support of Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford’s campaign for free school meals.

Cooper tweeted: ‘Let’s do this Leeds! No children should ever go hungry. £25k guaranteed from the @lufc squad. We stand with you Marcus Rashford.’

BRENDAN RODGERS has backed Mikel Arteta in his decision to sideline Mesut Ozil, saying players must be ‘working talents’.

World Cup winner Ozil has not featured for the Gunners since March and was left out of Arteta’s squads for both the Premier League and

Europa League. Rodgers, whose Leicester side face the Gunners today, said of Ozil: ‘He’s a talented player but it depends on your structure.

‘I’d be very much like Mikel, we need every player to contribute defensively as well as attacking. The team has to be one brain. Everyone needs to function and work together.

‘He’s a wonderful talent. He can make the last pass but it’s about the team. If one person doesn’t do their job, then you can suffer as a team.

‘He’s a talent, but you’ve got to be a working talent.’

NEWCASTLE’S Jonjo Shelvey is set for a spell on the sidelines with a groin injury.

The 28-year-old has played with the problem in recent weeks but will miss today’s trip to Wolves.

The club’s medical staff will decide on the best course of treatment this week and he is unlikely to feature before November’s international break.
