PICK OF THE DAY
Coronation Street
ITV, 7.30pm We were a nation of pounds, shillings and pence, The Beatles had yet to grace the charts and there were only two TV channels. That was the Britain of 1960, when Coronation Street first made its debut, and now the world’s longestrunning soap opera celebrates an extraordinary 60 years on television.
To mark the occasion there’s the week’s second hour-long special edition of the show, with an event-packed storyline including the long-awaited verdict at the trial of Yasmeen: will the court have accepted her claim of self-defence?
Then, in Queens Of The Street (9pm), Helen Worth and Julie Hesmondhalgh are among the stars talking about what it’s like to play the women of Weatherfield (such as Maureen Lipman, right), while fans Sir Derek Jacobi and Lorraine Kelly pay tribute to their feminine force.
