BODY

-

BABIES are born with about 300 bones in their bodies – yet an adult has just 206. This is because a baby’s bones aren’t fully formed and are joined together with a tough but flexible tissue called cartilage, which helps protect the baby, and the mother, during birth. As a child grows, the cartilage hardens and turns to bone, fusing the parts together – a process known as ossification.
