Knight in shining armour

-

WAYNE ROONEY celebrated his first win in interim charge of Derby County thanks to Jason Knight’s strike at The New Den.

However, the match was overshadowed by off-field action.

Millwall welcomed back 2,000 Lions fans for the first time since February. But some fans were heard booing when players took the knee before the game.

The hosts’ manager Gary Rowett said: ‘Moving forward, like a lot of clubs, they would prefer not to take the knee and actually enact change. They want to be proactive rather than it being a gesture which a lot of clubs are now saying is perhaps empty.’

Rooney added: ‘It’s a sad thing to happen but all I can say is everyone involved at Derby County Football Club has fully backed taking the knee and will continue to do so.’
