After a run-in with a witch in a store, a young boy and his grandmother aim to lie low at a posh hotel where – wouldn’t you know it? – they run into a whole convention of evil witches determined to rid the world of children by turning them into mice. Not everyone thought that this version of Roald Dahl’s tale measured up to the 1990 adaptation starring Anjelica Huston, but the special effects are great and Anne Hathaway (right, with Orla O’Rourke) gives a scenery-chewing performance as the Grand High Witch.
