My Generation BBC2, 9.20pm

-

At the beginning of the 1960s, Michael Caine (right) was just a jobbing actor, eking out a living on stage and on TV; but by the end of it he was a global superstar.

Although he was slightly older than many of the other working-class people who found fame during the decade, Caine still feels he’s part of the same generation and pays tribute to his peers in this featurelength documentary. It’s written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, who had their own share of success around the same time with the sitcom The Likely Lads.

Archive footage of swinging London is used to illustrate Caine’s anecdotes and interviews with the likes of Twiggy, David Bailey, Mary Quant and Paul McCartney.

It's part of an evening dedicated to Caine, which also includes the gems The Eagle Has Landed (6.10pm), The Many Faces Of Michael Caine (8.20pm) and Educating Rita (10.40pm, see below). ★★★★★
