WHAT’S YOUR CHRISTMAS TIER?

RULES FOR TIER 4

• 16.4 million people in England must stay at home by law and must not mix indoors with anyone outside their own household – including on Christmas Day. People who live alone can form a support bubble with one other household. In Wales, 3.1 million people will be allowed to spend Christmas Day with one other household.

• People are allowed to meet up outdoors in a public place with just one other person from another household. You can exercise outdoors for as long as you like.

• Pubs, restaurant­s, shops, gyms, hairdresse­rs and nail bars are all closed. Supermarke­ts and convenienc­e stores can stay open.

• People should work from home if they can. Schools and nurseries will be open.

• Residents must not stay overnight away from home. People are advised not to leave or travel into a tier 4 area.

RULES FOR TIER 3

• 20.7 million people will be allowed to spend Christmas Day indoors with up to two other households. Guests cannot include anyone living in another tier area.

• No more than six people can meet in public outdoor spaces. Apart from Christmas Day, you can’t mix indoors or in private gardens. People who live alone can form a support bubble with one other household.

• All entertainm­ent venues closed. All hospitalit­y venues closed, except for takeaways or delivery.

• Shops, gyms and hairdresse­rs can stay open. Everyone who can work from home should do so. Schools and education open.

• Only make essential journeys and do not travel to other tier areas.

RULES FOR TIER 2

• 17 million people will be allowed to spend Christmas Day indoors with up to two other households. Christmas guests should not include anyone living in another tier area. • You can see friends and family you do not live with only outdoors, in a group of no more than six. • Pubs and bars can only serve alcohol with substantia­l meals. Cinemas, theatres, shops, gyms, hotels and hairdresse­rs stay open.

• Live sports events, live performanc­es and large business events can take place with 50 per cent capacity, or 2,000 people outdoors. Overnight stays permitted with your household or support bubble. Exercise classes and organised adult sport can take place outdoors, and indoors only if there is no interactio­n between different households.

• Everyone who can work from home should do so. Schools and education open. Reduce the numbers of journeys made and avoid travel into other tier areas.

RULES FOR TIER 1

• 900,000 people can spend Christmas with up to two other households. Christmas guests should not include anyone living in another tier area.

• You can meet indoors and outdoors with friends and family you do not live with in a group of up to six people.

• Bars, pubs and restaurant­s open as normal but with table service only and must stop taking orders at 10pm.

• Cinemas, theatres, shops, gyms, hotels and hairdresse­rs are open.

• Sport, live performanc­es and business meetings limited to 50 per cent capacity or 4,000 people outdoors (whichever is lower), and 50 per cent capacity or 1,000 people indoors.

• Work from home if you can. Schools open as usual.

• Avoid travel to and from another tier area.
