Lily gets very passionate on the phone

But don’t worry, Mrs West, there’s a totally innocent explanation this time...

THROWING her head back in apparent ecstasy before running her fingers through her long hair, Lily James looks as if she is in the throes of passion… all while receiving a phone call.

These images might offer some cause for concern for the wife of Dominic West, with whom the actress shared an ill-advised kiss in Rome this autumn.

But Catherine FitzGerald can rest easy, as these pictures merely show Ms James on the set of her new film, entitled What’s Love Got To Do With It?

In this scene, filmed in London last week, Ms James’s character gets carried away with herself while speaking with a man she has met on the dating app Tinder.

It may be a similar lack of restraint that left the 31-year-old embroiled in controversy in October when she was photographed in Rome with West, her 50-year-old co-star on a

BBC adaptation of the novel The Pursuit Of Love.

When the photographs of them emerged, West returned to the UK and staged a very public show of unity with Ms FitzGerald, kissing for the cameras outside their Wiltshire home. A handwritten note clutched in Ms FitzGerald’s hand read: ‘Our marriage is strong and we’re very much still together.’

The new movie is believed to be

Ms James’s first acting role since then. Co-starring Emma Thompson, What’s Love Got To Do With It? revolves around cultural clashes, with filming split between London and South Asia.

It is something the film’s writer, Jemima Goldsmith, has first-hand knowledge of, as a socialite heiress who became the wife of Pakistan’s Prime Minister, the former cricketer Imran Khan, before they divorced in 2004.

Director Shekhar Kapur said recently: ‘It’s a comedy, but it’s about hiding behind an identity and how identities can become tribal, and how tribalism can lead to clashes and fundamentalism. It’s a romcom, but based on this fundamental idea of people adopting identities out of fear of marginalisation.’

Despite the imbroglio with West, Ms James’s career goes from strength to strength.

Last week, it was announced that she will play Pamela Anderson in Pam & Tommy, a TV series telling the story of the Baywatch star’s marriage to rock star Tommy Lee and the scandal over their infamous sex tape. The pair married after four days of dating, and divorced three years later.
