£100 surprise for each of Aviva’s 16,000 staff

- By Emma Dunkley

INSURANCE giant Aviva is giving each of its 16,000 workers a £ 100 handout to ‘boost morale’ and ‘help cope with the gloomy winter’.

The FT SE 100 firm, which appointed Amanda Blanc as chief executive in July, is dishing out vouchers to spend at a range of retailers including M&S and John Lewis.

An insider at Aviva said: ‘ We have thought hard about how to support staff over the past few months from a morale perspective, given it’s cold and we’ve been in lockdown.’ She said the vouchers would not replace the annual staff bonus.

Rival insurer RSA– which last month agreed a £7.2 billion takeover by two overseas insurance groups – is giving its 5,000 UK employees 1,000 points on its internal reward scheme, Spotlight, amounting to £10. Staff have also been given an extra 1,000 points to gift to a colleague to ‘recognise them for their hard work or support this year’.

The giant Bank of America has given some junior staff festive hampers.
