Care for those you love at home
The care home debacle and Covid debate, causing untold misery, continues.
While there are many elderly and younger people who need residential care because of physical and mental issues, that’s not the case for all.
My mother is 97 with a multitude of health problems. Her care is shared between my wife and me and my sister-in-law.
Extensions, stairlifts, aids and electric beds are now standard in our homes. We also have our own health issues, and working has not been an option for all of us for some time so financially it’s a hit.
Like many other familyorientated people, we think this is the right thing to do and while we are not alone, we do feel in a minority. So when some are fighting to get their parents back from care homes and are very angry and emotional, we have to ask: If they are able to live with you now, why did you put them in there in the first place?
It’s not the easy option but with planning, care, respite and organisation it is very rewarding.
When you are older and in need of care, where would you rather be?
